Depression often happens to us gradually over a period of time, so many sufferers don’t realise that something is wrong. However, over time, as the severity increases, the person may become more and more withdrawn, their daily lives become a struggle, and they may push away their friends, family, and loved ones.

Depression can be a causal factor in career problems or relationship breakdowns etc. Often the sufferer is unable to see how their situation could be improved, and they become stuck in that feeling of despair.

The severity of depression can range from almost completely dysfunctional to just having a few symptoms such as:

  • Low mood
  • Lack of energy and feeling tired more easily
  • Feeling sad and/or angry
  • Becoming irritated easily, or just feeling numb
  • Loss of interest in activities you used to enjoy
  • Loss of libido
  • Low self-confidence
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Changes in sleeping patterns – Difficulty sleeping or sleeping more than usual
  • Feeling guilty
  • Feelings of low self-worth

Hypnotherapy is considered the most effective method of treatment for depression, having a dramatically lower remission rate than medication alone. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps with breaking the cycle of depression by changing the pattern of thinking, thereby reducing the emotional arousal and lessening the amount of rumination and introspection that can be holding the depression in place; so the client is able to fully engage in their life again.
